The author covers the use of darks and lights from a design standpoint, which as an artist I found redundant and overstated. The actual application techniques - which is what I was interested in - was sorely lacking and quite trivial. The wording was not well thought out and left me with more questions. Although the color packer machine setup was outlined well, the cutback shader was skimmed over with no reference to front spring thickness or function. Applying ink to the skin was not well explained either. Trying to determine which motions to use from the author's poor word choices does not make for good instruction. I found three pages of the entire book useful.
A great book by one of The best in The tattoo industry. I recommend it to all tattoo artist from beginners to pros.
Lots of theory and 2 completely random useless chapters..only the chapter about the machines was good..I don't recomend for buying guys.everything you need to know is on you tube..and the letters are verry big so all in all it will be like 20 page read..I was expecting a lot lot more.and the price is insane aboutthis info...mabye if it was 10$ i would have given it 3 stars
Joshua Carlton is the master of realism. This Book is a Must have for any-one serious about upping their game. Also the DVD's. Bill
As a Tattoo Artist, you can never stop learning. There are constantly new techniques and new original styles coming from artists in this ever-evolving art form... I bought this book to get some tips and tricks from, not only one of my favorite artists, but one of the best in the craft. A great read for not just tattoo artist wanting some pointers, but any artist for that matter...
have been trying to get a hold of this book for over 6 months now in the UK each and every time its been £60 plus on ebay with bids rising eventually after finding it here on and looking through it the information in this book is fantastic any tattooer who wants to further there tattooing techniques towards a more realistic approach the book covers these techniques with added bonus of how to run the tattoo machine the book its self with all the information inside is worth its weight in gold and as far as i know there is an accompanied set of DVD's also which i think will be my next purchase Advanced Tattooing Techniques A Guide To Tattoo Realism
Its more than a book...i live on Costa Rica and never have a teacher of tattoo...now i can learn from one of tho most important artist of tattoo!!! and more is coming,,,i love Hyper Space Studio...Guy an Joshua,MASTER!! thanks
